Kumami and Miruku live with the seasons in an old Japanese house near a river and bamboo grove. Friends they meet at school. Competitive karuta cards laid across tatami. And, now and then, the presence of the moon drawing closer. Scenes from ordinary days gradually connect into a story of family and memory.

PICKLE SHOP OWNER
Kumami
Miruku's mother. Practical and energetic, she keeps both home and shop running.
WHITE BEAR GIRL
Miruku
A cheerful, sincere 13-year-old. Ice cream helps her regulate her body temperature.
MIRUKU'S FRIEND
Monaka
The only daughter of a wagashi shop family. Observant, she knows how to move things along.
QUIET THINKER
Tsukito
He sorts things out logically and chooses the answer he has verified for himself.
TSUKITO'S BUTLER
Tsukikage
Calm and sincere, he quietly watches over Miruku and her friends.
